The terrace, as we call it, was planned for the right of the patio (above) and would cover the grassy area (below). This would stretch the area to the full length of the screened porch.
Basic steps of installing a patio using pavers:
1. Dig a flat area down about 7 inches.
2. Level it.
3. Lay a 3"-4" gravel base to further level.
4. Lay an inch of sand.
5. Install the pavers.
6. Spread polymetric sand and wet it to set the product.
Here is our design plan. Forgive the ultra rough sketch. The clouds are bushes and SP is screened porch.
Second challenge: The ground that needed to be dug down 7 inches turned out to be clay and was full of old roots from a tree removed during the renovation.
Third challenge: A drain needed to be installed to route gutter drainage from the corner of the house under the patio instead of over it. The trench in the third picture shows this process.
